“Rising In The Union” Launch Huge Success!

Robert Ballagh

After several months of work and a year of research, Fountain Resource Group’s “Rising In The Union”, an exhibition exploring the events of the 1916 Rising in the Dublin 8 area, as well as the fallout of the events on a national and international level was launched with a great aplomb!

The St James’ Brass and Reed band, afamed for playing at O’Donovan Rossa’s funeral started proceedings with beautiful arrangements of classic Irish music.  This was followed by an opening speech by famous Irish artist Robert Ballagh, who spoke about the need to remember that the proclamation’s aspirations were yet to be fully realized.

Donal Fallon

This was followed by a short interlude filled by the St James’ Brass and Reed Band.  Then Donal Fallon, historian of “Come here to me” blog fame, gave a wonderfully detailed speech into events of the Rising in the areas, and similar need for progress on social issues such as housing.

Finally, the youth project movie was shown to applause from the audience and the guests were fed with delightful hors d’oeuvres and 1916 stylized biscuits. The exhibition will be open at St James’ Parochial Hall, James Street, 9 am – 5 pm, for April 14th to May 7th, the tours will leave twice daily at 10.30 and 2 pm.  All for free!

We would like to thank all who came out for the event, particularly, Robert Ballagh, Donal Fallon, St James Brass and Reed Band, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, Cllr Paul Hand,  and Aengus O Snodaigh TD, who took time out of their very busy schedules to visit us.
