Fountain Youth Project Lead The Way at Reel Youth 2014
The Reel Youth Programme has long been a valued addition to the lives of young people in Dublin’s Inner City. The programme encourages young people from youth services around the Capital to utilise their inner creative talents across the spectrum of film making skills.
They are taught from the more abstract creative skills of storyboarding and scriptwriting, to more technical and practical skills of camera and boom mike operation as well as acting classes provided by “Fighting Words” performance workshops.
Last Thursday the 25th of September, the various youth projects got the chance to showcase the fruit of their labours at a gala event held in Liberty Hall. The proceedings saw 14 such films shown by youth projects from as far as Donnycarney to Cherry Orchid.
Perhaps most impressively of all the show was presented by our own Keith Fitzpatrick. Keith started his rise towards stardom in our own Fountain Youth Project as part of a Reel Youth Programme, since then he has secured a reoccurring role on RTE’s mega hit “Love/Hate” (story here).
The Fountain Youth Project’s film was very well received by all those present. Titled the “Drill” the story recounts a young lad’s fear of the dentist, which causes him to have mental breakdown leaving him questioning what is real and what is imaginary (it does sound kind of cool don’t it?).
The film’s odd and highly creative plot line made it an instant favourite with the audience. A Big Congratulations to all the lads and lassies involved and for our great youth worker team led by Paul and Nicola for putting so much hard work into the project.
By extension a well done to all the youth projects who presented films at the event, there was an exceptionally high quality to all of them and they really made the evening a joy for all in attendance.
