Walk In My Shoes Radio

St. Patrick’s University Hospital is located here in Dublin 8 on Bow Lane West and provides a service for those with mental health disorders. Walk In My shoes Radio was launched yesterday. It is Ireland’s only all-digital pop-up radio station and will aim at helping people who suffer from mental health disorders. The radio has set its target to raise €10,000 for the treatment of a hundred young people.

Mental health advocates, celebrity ambassadors and well-known presenters all joined the fun at St Patrick’s to launch the new station. Walk In My Shoes Radio will broadcast live from St Patrick’s during World Mental Health Awareness Week, which will run from Monday 5th to Friday the 9th of October. The motto ‘A small step, a huge difference’ will be used throughout this week.

Walk In My Shoes will be focused on discussing issues related to mental health with their listeners and encourage those who suffer to seek support and professional advice during the early stages of an illness. This is the most important time to get professional help and treatment and listeners will have an opportunity to learn from those who have overcome and survived mental health illness. There will be many guests on the show during the week and they will share their stories of recovery with listeners.

Too many people with mental health difficulties are leaving it too late to seek help.  The overall aim of Walk in My Shoes Radio is to encourage people to seek support and professional advice as early as possible. Our pop-up station is a small step in setting the mental health agenda, but it could make a huge difference to listeners’ lives if we can help them by imparting this important message. Prioritising your mental health is hugely important and we are committed to spreading that message this Mental Health Awareness Week,” CEO of St Patrick’s Mental Health Services, Paul Gilligan said at the launch today.

Also at St Patrick’s was Sarah Surgenor, Head of Communications and Fundraising at St Patrick’s: “We are delighted to formally launch Walk in My Shoes Radio today.  Our aim is to provide 70 hours of quality radio from October 5th – 9th, with the help of our fantastic celebrity ambassadors and mental health advocates. This station provides us with an amazing platform to encourage our listeners to prioritise their mental health while raising vital funds that will provide free therapy sessions for 100 young Irish people.”

A great line-up is planned for World Mental Health Awareness Week, and listeners can expect some of their favourite broadcasters and celebrities on the show. All the presenters are from radio stations who are local, national and community based and has volunteered their time to help with the fundraising.
