Chinese New Year at the Dublin Fruit Market – Stephen Davis tells us about a new Chinese New Year Festival in the recently closed for refurbishments, Smithfield Fruit and Veg Market

The Chinese Year of the Rat is nearly upon us and the centrepiece of the celebrations in Dublin will be held this year in the historic Dublin Fruit Market.

Closed in August 2019 for renovation the Victorian era market will be opened on the weekend of the 25th and 26th of January for a celebration of Chinese culture themed on traditional temple fairs, or ‘Miaohui’

There will be Chinese Dragon and Lion performances, workshops, games, food stalls, a wishing tree and special guest appearances from folk artists visiting from China.

You can try the noodles from China House, Dumplings from the Bullet Restaurant or sample one of Bao House’s signature Bao burgers.

Admission is free and all are welcome to this family-friendly event.

Opening times are 11.00 – 18.00 (Sat) & 11.00 – 17.00 (Sun)
