Everyday 11 people develop dementia in Ireland! That is an alarming thought, take in consideration that dementia attacks the one of the most important needs a human has, memory. Without memory we become like little babies and we need assistance in everything we do.

Today marks the first day of the National Dementia Awareness Campaign – Understand Together. The Minister for Mental Health and Older People, Helen McEntee, TD. commented on the launch of the campaign that will take place over a period of three years:

“Each year 4,000 people in Ireland develop a dementia – that’s 11 people every day. Currently, there are approximately 55,000 people living with dementia in the Republic of Ireland. Dementia prevalence is set to increase in line with our ageing population, underscoring the need for us as a nation to acknowledge and understand the condition and its impact on individuals and society as a whole.”

The HSE, Alzheimer Society of Ireland and Genio have come together to create a campaign that will aim at informing the public of what dementia is about by involving public relations, mass media advertising, radio and outdoor posters, social media and television advertising.

Radio Adverts explaining the campaign and what can be expected has gone on air already, listen to the ads on Soundcloud here.
