On the 16th of April, 2016 – the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama will be hosting a day long charitable marathon of music. The Gleeson Theatre, at DIT Kevin Street D8, is presenting the ‘DIT Music Marathon’. If you are into enjoying music for hours on end, this is one you should not miss.
A host of orchestral and piano students will be performing music in aid of Pieta House on Saturday from 12pm-8pm, giving the audience the opportunity to donate something towards the service Pieta House provides. Pieta House is a nonprofit organisation that assists in treatment for people who suffer from suicidal ideation or who participate in self-harm.
The programme features music performances of popular classics and contemporary film, stage and concert hall music, performed in a variety of orchestral ensembles. Concerto soloists, chamber music and piano pieces will add to the eight hour long marathon.
Students of music as young as six-years-old will be joining performers studying undergraduate and postgraduate music at the Conservatory and will play jazz, percussion, wind, string and piano pieces.
Ensembles include: DIT Play Strings, DIT Prelude Strings, DIT Sinfonietta, DIT Sinfonia, DIT Prelude Winds, DIT Concert Band, DIT Wind Ensemble, DIT Percussion Ensemble, DIT Symphony Orchestra, DIT Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Ensembles and Piano Ensembles.
The DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama educates students in the performing arts and take in students from the age of 3 years and up. They have a range of performing art disciplines, some of those include: classical and Irish traditional music, opera, drama, rock and pop music, and film scoring. The Conservatory is moving to the DIT Grangegorman campus in North Central Dublin in 2017. The new facility promises to be among the finest in Europe and will present students with a redesigned curricula.
All proceeds on the door will be donated to charity.
