WATER PROTEST HIT RIALTO AND LIBERTIES

Dave Carr reports on the tense standoff between water protesters and Gardai In Rialto

Early on Monday morning the residents of Rialto Street awoke to the rumble of trucks and heavy footfall. Somewhere in the region of 30 to 40 Gardai and as many water company employees were soon facing off against local protesters in what appeared to be an escalation of the ongoing water dispute.

The very scale of the operation, and its often masked opposition made for a serial sight on this quite Rialto Street. Every time Smc workers upped tools a scum of gardai and demonstrators gathered, and together, in a kind of crazed version of lanigan’s ball, they all waltzed up and down the street. One side was determined to install water meters, the other adamant this was not going to happen.

Each morning since, a curious game of cat a mouse has played out on the streets of Rialto and the Liberties. Smc Sierra and the Gardai buy xanax in japan target different streets in the hope of catching their opponents on the hop. Demonstrators patrol the area and act as lookouts.

On Tuesday the operation came to Grey Street in the liberties. By Wednesday things had moved on to Maxwell Street. On Thursday and Friday Maryland was targeted. So far it appears that dispute this massive operation only a handful of meters have been installed.

Day by day tactics evolve on either side. By Tuesday the masks were gone, it seems some residents found them menacing and they didn’t play well on social media. On the Garda side there was no repeat of the two arrests made on Monday, perhaps the decision was made not to escalate an already tense standoff, but photos were taken and that could come yet.
