Liberties FC over 35s Just Fall Short in Top Table Clash!

AFL OVER 35s SUNDAY DIVISION 2
CARNDONAGH FC 2-2 LIBERTIES FC

The Over 35’s sure seem to be the team to watch at the moment as their games are full of twists, turns, incidents and drama and that’s just before the games!!!

Sunday was no different with no fewer than 3 players donning the gloves at different stages: John Magee, Gary O’Connell and Peter Long all deserve huge credit for their attitudes today! The team certainly isn’t being helped by the injuries and therefore the inconsistency in selection, players playing out of position but the attitude of everyone pulling together has to be admired and applauded!

On another day they should also have 3 points to applaud…unfortunately, in the end, like the Premier Seniors on Saturday they might feel grateful for 1! 2-0 up at half time you might think the game was won but not with this side, it’s a roller coaster!!

There are always goals! With Stuart Downing AKA Keith Meehan whipping in quality crosses from the left, Shano proving a handful for everyone he comes up against and James O’Keefe adding goals to his game… (Who knew???) to name but 3 there is always a threat!! The goals today were taken by O’Keefe and Peter Long with Shano involved in both!

But with a keeper change, O’Connell having to come off injured and Long having to step in, there was a forced reshuffle…and the tide turned! Carndonagh to their credit brought it back to 2-2 and some stout defending was required to see out the point!

DDSL U17s  SUNDAY MAJOR DIVISION 3

MARROWBONE LANE CELTIC FC 0-3 ST JOHN BOSCO

As for the Unders, this was a top of the table clash against St John Bosco and their first appearance in the Phoenix Park!

Keith Boylan, as director of football was casting his eye and would have seen a side full of creativity and energy….but today their clinical finishing which has seen them score goals galore in recent weeks, winning 5 out of 5, deserted them completely!

They had several chances and on another day would have been out of sight before Bosco took the lead!! Unfortunately that first goal changed the game and Marrowbone fell to their first league defeat!

A sign of a top side though is not losing, but how they respond and we’re sure that Matthew Rooney will lift his lads before next weekend’s fixture and get them back to winning ways!!

So, 4 games, 2 draws and 2 defeats….it’s been a difficult weekend for the Libbos….its back to the training ground to put it right!

Thanks for reading!
Enjoy the day!
