Grand Canal Harbor Development Update

An update on the ongoing development in Grand Canal Harbor. Marlet have submitted new plans to Dublin City Council. In their new proposals the usage of the site is drastically altered. There will be no private residential units. Overall usage of the buildings will be divided between Student Accommodation and Hotel/Aparthotel Units.. The heights and number of floors have also been changed on all buildings bar the protected structure known as Building 5/Ryans Warehouse. Attached to our article is a number of photographs outlining the size of the site and some shots which give some idea and scale of the site. Below are the main changes that are proposed.

Basement Area. There will be a reduction in the overall size of the basement from over 8149 square meters to 6243. Car parking spaces will be reduced from 197 to 50. Cycle spaces will be increased from 394 to 459.
Building 1 will be changed from office space over 8 stories to an aparthotel over 11 stories with 365 rooms.
Building 2A and 2B will be changed from office space over 8 stories to student accommodation over 10 stories with 434 bedspaces.
Building 3 will be changed from office space over 7 stories to an aparthotel over 9 stories with 142 rooms.
Building 4 will be changed from aparthotel/residential apartments over 12 stories to a hotel over 13 stories with 256 rooms. Balconies and terraces on all floors have been ommitted
Building 6 will be changed from a medical center over 6 stories to Medical services and student accommodation with 204 bedspaces. The wall of the premises known as eurosaw will be demolished. But the existing boundary wall to westcourt will be retained.
Overall floorspace will be increased from 44000m just under 53000m. The total number of bed units are 638 student beds, 507 aparthotel beds and 256 hotel beds.

    Not ANOTHER student accomodation and apart-hotel. It is too late to object to the change? We are in the middle of a housing crisis and they get away with the decision not to build residential units?? ARGH!!!!!
