Fire in Bridgefoot Street

A large warehouse beside the old Mendacity building at the bottom of Bridgefoot St was on fire this morning. The fire appeared to be quite extensive as the roof of the warehouse was completely destroyed and there seemed to be serious structural damage caused. There did not look to be damage to the surrounding buildings.

As of yet, Dublin Fire Brigade had not established the cause of the fire. However, a local resident said that it seemed local youths had been collecting wooden pallets for a Halloween bonfire, and that they believed that youths from a different area intentionally started the blaze in order to sabotage collection efforts.

There has long been a dangerous level of braggadocio among different youth gangs in inner city Dublin around who can build the biggest bonfire. It is not only dangerous because of a lack of adult supervision, but often because youth gangs will attempt elaborate ways to scupper their rivals.
