Family Day will be celebrated at a day long festival in Dublins Smithfield Square on Saturday 27th May from 1-5pm. This is the seventh annual Family Day Celebration. The programme offers great entertainment, fun games and activities and useful information for all types of families and for the young and old. Come along, join in the fun and celebrate your family.
We believe all families matter, and that individuals who feel cared for and supported by those around them- whether families or others in their lives- help to make stronger communities for us all.
We know that families are not all the same. We like the UN definition of family which refers to two or more people, bound together by mutual consent, birth and/or adoption or placement who together care for each other. We celebrate all types of family – one-parent families, step families, the traditional married family, adoptive and foster families, blended and extended families, those with opposite and same sex parents.
The first four Family Days presented by One Family were in the Iveagh Gardens, Dublin 2 from 2011 to 2014. In 2016 we moved to Wolfe Tone Square in Dublin 1. This year we are moving to Smithfield Square as One Family celebrates 45 years and moves to new headquarters in Smithfield Square where more families can avail of the services. One Family has been highlighting Family Day in Ireland for the past decade, inspired by International Day of Families which is held in May annually and was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1992.
Family Day is presented by One Family and kindly supported by Dublin City Council; people and organisations who donate skills and time; and a fantastic team of volunteers.
Entry and all activities are, and always will be, free of charge. We aim to keep the event as a ‘pester-power-free’ zone as much as we can. You can bring your own picnic to enjoy and there is also the option of visiting the many cafes on Smithfield Square if you wish to purchase food or hot drinks.
