Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services has arranged for a day in bed for everyone in the country. On Sunday the 17th of April Ireland is being asked to stay in bed the whole day without feeling guilty – all you need is a sponsor and the proceeds will be donated to Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services.
There is no set rules, you don’t need to lie in bed only, you can lie anywhere; on the grass, in your tent, on your couch. The choice is yours, all you need to do is not get up for the day and aspire to do nothing.
Other ideas for those who feel they want to do their share, but don’t have what it takes to be a lazy bugger – bed pushing has been suggested! What does this involve? Well you will have to use your imagination, you might have to push your friend’s bed down the lane, that will do and of course the further you push that bed the more money you will be able to collect for your favourite hospice.
Schools are also being asked to participate, but lying down in the classroom might be a bit tricky, so it might be a good idea to spend the day in pajamas and to bring your bedtime toys to school for the day.
Other suggestions for schools or companies (the official Big Lie In for companies and schools are on Friday the 15th of April) who are interested in The Big Lie In :
Don’t do it alone – do it with friends
Grab a book or write some letters to those you have been neglecting throughout the year, they might still be waiting on the Christmas card you never sent.
Get yourself a waiter, butler to cook for the long day in bed – you will need assistance!
Run an inter-departmental sponsorship competition
Organise an in-house raffle and give the winner the day off so they can stay in bed!
If you don’t think you can spare any staff for the day, how about allowing those taking part to wear their PJs into work.
Send us details about your company and some pictures of those getting involved, we’d love to spread the word.
Once you have gathered the donations you are going to be getting from your sponsors you can bank, send it in a cheque, transfer it online, visit Our Lady’s Hospice’s website or drop off the money in person to Harold’s Cross or Blackrock Hospice. Our Lady’s Hospice has two centres, one in Harold’s Cross and one in Blackrock. These hospices cater for people who have special needs and needs rehabilitation or specialist care.
“Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services is a 218 bed hospice providing specialist care for people with a wide range of needs from rehabilitation to end of life care. This high quality, person-centred loving care is provided both on-site in one of our truly special facilities: Harold’s Cross Hospice and Blackrock Hospice as well as in the local community. We provide specialist care to over 1,500 individuals every year. There are just over 600 staff and almost 300 volunteers who deliver this excellent service for patients and their families at a most difficult time in their lives,” CEO, Audrey Houlihan of Our Lady’s Hospice said on their official fundraising site.
“Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services continues to be wonderfully supported by the public and organisations through donations, fundraising events and bequests and for this we are truly grateful. We appreciate all the support we get and are committed to spending all funds wisely.”
A new project on the Harold’s Cross Palliative Care Unit has commenced this year. The unit is being redeveloped and phases 1 and 2 are due to be completed by 2016.
