Leaving Cert Students Get Their Results

Irish leaving cert students’ can access there leaving cert results now and the long wait is finally over. There were almost 58,000 students sitting the exams in June.

The Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan said: “I would like to congratulate all of the 58,000 students around the country who are getting their leaving cert results today, to say well done to all of them. This is a significant milestone in their lives and is a reflection of a lot of hard work and a lot of initiative shown by students. I think also we need to acknowledge the support they would have got from family and friends and teachers and schools, and to say well done to each and every one of them.”

There has been an increase in higher level maths students and higher level science subjects in general, taken. These subjects are often emphasised by the State as they directly lead into employment, particularly, in Ireland’s pharmaceutical sector.

Unfortunately, not everyone can be a winner and there will be many disappointed in their results, this was also reflected in the Minister’s statement: “I suppose there will be students out there who are somewhat disappointed in the marks that they’ve got and I would say to those students to take some time to consider your options. There are many options out there now. There is higher education, but there is also further education where you can take maybe a one year or a two year course that can lead directly into employment or it can lead you on to transfer on into a higher education course either in an institution of technology or university. But also there are apprenticeships for example and we have an increase in the number of people taking their traditional construction based apprenticeships in the last year or two. But we’re also bringing on stream now 25 new apprenticeships in areas where we never had them in Ireland before, so they are ranging from chefs, to bakers, to IT, to financial management, to accountancy right across the spectrum.”

The State Examinations Commission also congratulated students: “The State Examinations Commission (SEC) congratulates the 57,929 candidates who sat the Leaving Certificate examination in 2015 and for which it is releasing figures today. The statements of provisional results of this year’s examinations are available in schools today. From midday, students who are not in a position to collect their results in person from their school can access them through the SEC’s internet results service.”

The number of students sitting the examinations has increased by 1.6% from 56,990 candidates in 2014 to 57,929 in 2015. Of the 57,929 candidates who sat Leaving Certificate examinations this year, 55,045 candidates followed the Leaving Certificate (Established) programme, including 14,924 (25.8%) who followed the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme. A further 2,884 (5%) candidates followed the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme. The results obtained in most subjects this year are broadly in line with those of previous years.
