GoCar Sharing Has Arrived at Heuston South Quarter

Are you tired of waiting on the bus or taxi, or getting to the tram or train in time. Look no further for an alternative to this dilemma, GoCar Sharing has arrived in Ireland and now the Heuston South Quarter on the Military Road here in Dublin 8. This is new concept is not only environmental friendly, but it also encourages economy sharing. It is a more economical choice of transport, you don’t have to worry about car payments or maintenance – this is the other guy’s problem from now on.

This suits me just fine, because I don’t mind sharing (I occasionally had to share the husband). I was quite amazed at this new way of getting yourself around and it seems like less hassle and less expensive than hiring an AVIS car. AVIS was big when I was a young; I watched many holidaymakers drive around in their AVIS cars, the sticker made it impossible to miss.

The transport company GoCar provides a new service for drivers who don’t own cars. The cars can be accessed whenever you need one. All you need to do is sign up online; joining up will cost you only €49.00. There is a fleet of over 100 vehicles across Dublin and Cork, including small vans, to choose from. The GoCar system allows you to book a vehicle by the hour and return it once you have run all your errands or have reached your destination.

When you become a member of GoCar you pay for the hours and kilometres only. Insurance, tax, maintenance, fuel and city centre on street parking, are all included in the rates.

Kieran Brennan from GoCar says, “GoCar Car Sharing has grown substantially across Dublin over the past 2 years and we are now delighted to be integrated to this fantastic development in HSQ. We believe we are providing local residents and employees with a cost effective and convenient alternative to car ownership. HSQ is a vibrant and exciting development and we look forward to working closely with the team here to make this service a success!”

The GoCity range features Ford Fiesta’s, Hyundai i10’s and i20’s. The cars are all manual and fueled by petrol, included in the rates. The smaller cars are cheaper than the bigger ones, but very reasonable and affordable. The rates ranges from €4.99 per hour to €5.99 per hour. It is half the price per hour from midnight to 8am and you can have a car for 24 hours for €40 to €50. Once you have signed up and paid the joining fee you will only have to pay €5 a month thereafter and you also get a gift of €15 GoCredit when you sign up.

Sharing Economy is a global business that generates billions a year, it has been estimated that by 2025 the sharing economy will generate $335bn in global revenue a year. Other economy sharing companies that have taken off in Ireland is Coca Cola Zero Bikes and Airbnb.

A few months ago I wrote an article on Online Breastmilk Sharing; at the time I found this weird and wonderful, but now I am starting to catch on. The world is getting smaller and more expensive as the populace is growing and sharing certain things can save you money, space, leave you with more choice and diversity; and you will end up with less to worry about.

I think this is the way of the future, GoCar!
