Gardeners in the Rathgar area get your spades and gloves out if you have not done so already, because it’s time to get gardening again. In June and July the 2016 Gardening Competition is returning, that is only a week from now! For this year’s competition you need only your front gardens to look their best, that is the only rule.
Gardens will be inspected for judging during the months of June and July, at least twice during this period. All gardens will be scored based on the general maintenance of your garden and will be awarded a total number out of 10.
General maintenance will include neatness, tidiness and cleanliness for each category. The best garden will be gifted with the Dixon Cup for overall best garden and subsequent prizes will include €50 vouchers, sponsored by local businesses from the area. The prize giving will take place at the 62nd Rathgar Horticultural Society Show on the 16th July 2016.
The categories for the 2016 Garden Competition are:
Best kept hedge
Best accommodation for bin in garden setting
Garden with balance between hard surface and green surface
Garden in bloom
Low maintenance garden but aesthetically pleasing as a garden
Specimen Tree in a front Garden
Best small front garden
Best large front garden
Best flower pot/window box/container display
Overall best garden (Dixon Cup)
