There are two interesting new planning applications this week, and they concern two of the biggest employers in this corner of the city; The Digital Hub and St. James’s Hospital. The Digital Hub has applied to convert a piece of land to create 50 additional car parking spaces, along with a bicycle shed for 20 bikes. Meanwhile, the folks over at St. James’s Hospital have applied to convert/adapt a two-storey building, aswell as building a brand new two storey building beside it. That site for that development is beside James’s Walk, at the southern end of the hospital grounds. An enclosed pedestrian corridor is also proposed, linking the new facilities (examination and consulting rooms) with Building 5.
A cluster of decisions have been made this week aswell. The Robert Emmet Community Development project have been allowed to change an office area into an after-school daycare centre on Usher Street, and St. James’s Hospital have been allowed to continue to use a former industrial site as a car park with 137 spaces. Retention has been granted to Jamel Arif for a cafe/deli on Bulfin Road, but an extension of permission for a major housing development on Emmet Road has been denied. National Autoparts & O’Byrne Ltd had plans to build 126 apartments and 4 living/retail units, in 2 blocks (3-7 storeys), along with an underground car park. Considering the ongoing rent increases in the area, this type of development could be very useful for Dublin 8.
