Seven-storey Aparthotel Development Thomas Street
The Liberties, known for its rich history and cultural significance, has seen a surge in similar developments in recent years. This trend has sparked a debate among local residents and officials. Labour councillor Darragh Moriarty has voiced concerns about the overconcentration of tourist accommodations, arguing that it comes at the expense of much-needed residential housing. The area already hosts several new hotels and aparthotels, including the 247-room aparthotel at Tivoli and the 234-room Hyatt Hotel on Dean Street.
The Masonry, a repurposed warehouse, currently offers coworking spaces, private offices, and event venues, contributing to the area’s dynamic atmosphere. The addition of the Welthomas aparthotel aims to complement this by providing more lodging options for visitors.
