Last nights ‘Prime Time’ program on RTE1 included a report about the Basin Street and O’Devaney Gardens regeneration situations. The report centered around the way in which both complexes have been partially de-populated in order to make way for major regeneration projects which have never been undertaken.

The end result has seen crime rates soar, vandalism on an epic scale, and an air of despair for the remaining residents, although Prime Time did point out that we here at the Fountain Resource Group have been working hard to give the youth of the Basin Street Area some hope through our Fountain Youth Project. Our youth worker was featured throughout the program.

The report, by RTE journalist Barry O’Kelly, lasts about 15 minutes and features many local residents, Dublin’s Deputy City Mayor Clare Byrne and Simon Brooke from the Cluid Housing Association. Pat Kenny also spoke in studio to Dermot Lacey, the Chairman of the Dublin City Council Housing Committee.
