NCAD Wins At The RDS Visual Art Awards
On Tuesday of last week The RDS Visual Art Awards were held at the Royal Dublin Society, who invited 170 students to exhibit their visual art works, of these students 13 were shortlisted. Six NCAD students were shortlisted for the awards.
‘The Weight of Water’ created by Elaine Hoey was awarded the prize of overall winner. Elaine received a BA in Fine Art Media earlier this year at the NCAD and was awarded €10,ooo. ‘The Weight of Water’ confronts the global refugee crisis and is a visual reality tour that allows you to experience the refugee crisis with a reality headset.
She was one of four NCAD students who received recognition at this year’s awards. The R.C.Lewis-Crosby Award went to Sven Sandberg and Michelle Hall who shares the €6,000 prize money as joint winners. BA graduate of Fine Art Media, Aoife Dunne, received the RDS Monster Truck Studio Award for her sculpture work ‘limitless’.
“We are delighted at the news that four NCAD students have been recognised and awarded prizes for their work and I wish to express my congratulations to them and to all students who were short-listed,” Bernard Hanratty the Acting Director of NCAD said about the great success his college enjoyed at the RDS Awards.
The exhibition of works from students around the country were selected by five judges, these were exhibited in the Concert Hall at the RDS. Congratulations to the winners and participants from all of us here at FRG.
