The National College of Art and Design has come together with The Westbury Hotel to launch the NCAD Inspired Afternoon Tea this summer. Pastry chefs will use designs NCAD fashion designer students have come up with to decorate and make cakes and desserts mimicking designs students have created.

NCAD’s Inspired Afternoon Tea will be served on The Gallery of the Westbury Hotel. An afternoon tea experience where you can sink your teeth into your favourite designs will cost you €47 per head, €59 per person with a glass of Moet & Chandon  and €80 with Dom Perignon Champagne.

Speaking about her pastry designs Executive Pastry Chef at The Westbury, Tatjana Upelniece-Kiselova, said: “As a pastry chef it is particularly important to pay attention to the finer details, as it is necessary to have a balance between both how the cakes and pastries resemble the NCAD fashion designers creations and how they will taste for our guests.

It was a very exciting challenge to meet with the designers in their NCAD fashion studio and choose which from some of  their amazing creations and decide which ones would translate best as a dessert. Overall, it was an incredible experience which I thoroughly enjoyed and it was an absolute pleasure to work with the NCAD fashion graduates, who have each created truly inspiring collections.”

What is on the tea menu? There are cherry macaroons with smooth velvet mocha cream inspired by a fiery red ensemble design created by graduate Zoe Redmond. A lime, lemon and grapefruit tart inspired by a citrus outfit. An exotic pina colada based on the design of a black and yellow dress that will quench your thirst and Ciana Keating’s ‘Beach Belle’ sky-blue swimming dress, inspired the chefs to come up with a blueberry and vanilla cake, hand-decorated.

The recent NCAD graduate fashion show that was held in the car park of The Westbury Hotel was behind the idea for the new Afternoon Tea. “We are particularly excited to see how the work of our fashion graduates has inspired the creation of a new Afternoon Tea and we are interested to see how the use of different ingredients to develop textures, colors and shapes will rival the original designs,” Angela O’Kelly, the Head of Design for Body and Environment at NCAD commented.
