Liberties Festival 2015 13th – 18th July
The Liberties first festival was held in 1970 and it has continued every summer since. The festival features, arts programmes, film, dance, music, literature and much more. This year’s festival promises to be a fun filled event for all of the family!

Monday 13th July
11am – 2pm Drama workshop in Steiner School, 92 Meath Street
Carol O’Reilly hosts a four day drama workshop for children aged 7 years and up.
2pm – 4pm Puppet making in Steiner school, 92 Meath Street
Charlie Ryder a puppeteer shows children aged 7 years and up the art of making puppets.
4pm Walk and Talk tour
Pat Liddy will bring you on a historical adventure and guided tour around the liberties.
8pm – 10pm Brendan Behan Play in Arthur’s Pub Thomas Street
This play is about Brendan’s childhood and adulthood in Dublin in the 1940’s and 1950’s.
Tuesday 14th July
10am – 5pm Photograph Instillation at the Exhibition Theatre in NCAD
This photograph instillation is from old photographs donated by local people and it depicts the changes in the liberties in the last 100 years.
2pm -4pm Puppet making in the Steiner school, 92 Meath Street
Charlie Ryder a puppeteer shows children aged 7 years and up the art of making puppets.
7:30pm singing in St Catherine’s Church, Meath Street
A Hungarian female choir called Amica Voce will sing beautiful Hungarian music.
Wednesday 15th July.
11am Drama in the Steiner school, 92 Meath Street
Carol O’Reilly hosts a drama workshop for children aged 7 years and up.
12-2pm Karl Parkinson, Writer &Performer
Karl will read some of his beautiful poems on the streets or in the cafés of the liberties.
2pm – 4pm Puppet making in the Steiner School, 92 Meath Street
Charlie Ryder a puppeteer shows children aged 7 years and up the art of making puppets.
3pm – 5pm Blooming Liberties in the Steiner School, 92 Meath Street
Cherrie McAllister who grew up in the liberties area shows you how to create some beautiful hangings baskets, and other greenery to brighten up our streets.
6pm -7pm Flash Fiction Competition in Authors Pub, Thomas Street
Jacinta Owens, Screenplay writer facilitates a Flash Fiction Competition. The theme is ‘The Liberties’ and you will need to write about 50 – 300 words about the liberties. Email your entries to liberties@gmail.com.
7.30pm Oliver Bond Football Pitch
Come and watch the street traders of the Liberties and the Guards battle it out on the football pitch.
8pm Comedy night in The Fountain Pub, Meath Street
James Brown hosts a fun filled night of comedy, bingo and karaoke. This will include spot prizes and drink promotions.
Thursday 16th July

11am – 3pm After School sports day
SICCA have organised an after school sports day. This will involve a fun packed day filled with legendary games such as the egg and spoon race, the 3 legged race, relay races and much more.
12pm – 3pm Fencing in St Patrick’s Park
Dougal Hazel organises fencing in the park for children aged 7 years and up.
2pm – 4pm Puppet making in the Steiner school, 92 Meath Street

7.30pm Comedy night in Arthur’s Pub, Thomas Street
Peter Sheridan hosts a comedy night which will be certain to make you cry with laughter!
7:35pm St James’s Fun Run
This is the 7th annual St James’s Fun Run and 1000 participants will jog, walk or run around the liberties in order to raise funds for St James’s Hospital.
Friday 17th July

11am Older & Bolder Bowling
The Whitefriar Street annual senior bowlers compete in this bowling competition for this year’s trophy.
12 – 1pm Kid’s yoga in St Patrick’s Park
1pm – 2pm Yoga for everyone in St Patrick’s Park
3pm – 5pm Blooming Liberties in the Steiner School, 92 Meath Street

7pm -8.30pm Opera in John’s Lane Church, Thomas Street
Opera in the Open are thrilled to be coming back to sing at the Liberties Festival. They will sing music from ‘Carmen’, ‘La Boheme’ and more.
7pm Karaoke contest in Dean Swift Pub, Francis Street
Singers from local pubs compete to become ‘The First Annual Voice of the Festival’ in this Grand Final in the Dean Swift Bar. With complimentary finger food and the chance to win a weekend away!
8pm Comedy night in Arthurs Pub, Thomas Street
David Hoyle presents comedy, polemic, pathos and provocative politicking at this interesting event.
Saturday 18th July
11am –5.30pm Family Fun day in Bridgefoot Street
Barren Carrousal is a circus troupe performing their show Shhhhhh! This includes acrobatics, aerial skills, Spanish web, comedy and juggling. There will also be bouncing castles, art workshops, face – painting, samba group Masamba and much more.
7-9pm Kid’s Talent Show in St. Catherine’s Church, Thomas Street
8pm Lol’s in the Liberties Arthur’s Pub, Thomas Street
Comedian Willie White entertains you with his quick humour.
8-11.45pm Nighthawks at the Guinness Storehouse, Arthur’s Bar
This year’s line-up is Tucan, I’m Your Vinyl, Andrew Stanley, Kevin Gildea, Stephen James Smith, Enda Reilly and Paul Curran.
