Liberties FC are the Leinster Football League Saturday Premier Division!
Liberties FC 1 – 1 Sallynoggin
The bottom line is we got the point we needed to clinch the Leinster Football League Saturday Premier Division title in our first year! An incredible achievement by every single member of our squad, from those that were there on day one, such as Connor, Farrell and McNally to our latest recruit Declan Mullane – every single one of them has paid a big part in getting were we are today.
The game was a much better performance from us and bodes well for the cup final game next week. It was also a good performance from Sallynoggin and all in all a good open game. In truth we had the chances to win it and should have done. The lads, disappointed with the performance on Wednesday, came out of the traps and signalled their intentions very early when striker Michael Horgan hit the bar with a header, and then couldn’t quite convert the rebound with an ambitious overheard kick.
However the goal came soon after with great work by Robbie Bowes down the right, crossing and finding him onrushing Robbie Best who swept home from the edge of the box. It must be said another vital goal from Rob who’s had a super season. With us not being able to kill off the game Sallynoggin soon hit back and levelled the game to make it 1-1 before half time.
There were numerous chances, Chris Devereux and Michael Horgan were a constant menace up front as they have been all season however they couldn’t quite find the finish to give us all 3 points. Today Lee Teeling, just edged the Man Of the Match award with a super performance from left back but there were good performances all over the park and the lads did the job
Celebrations are on hold until after next Sunday’s final versus Drumfinn in the Iveagh Grounds – please contact us for tickets!! But rest assured after next Sunday’s match, hopefully with the double in the bag, we’ll be hitting the Liberties area in celebration!!
