Laurencetide At Christ Church Cathedral
This year Dublin and Glendalough is celebrating its 800th anniversary. As part of this celebration Christ Church Cathedral will host a week of celebrations called Laurencetide, using the feast of St. Laurence buy xanax romania O’Toole, Abbot of Glendalough and Archbishop of Dublin as inspiration. All three saints were involved in the building of Christ Church.
The celebrations will kick off on the 13th of November 2016, with a visit from the Archbishop, Most Rev Diarmuid Martin. On Sunday the 13th of November he will deliver a sermon and be accompanied by Dublin and Glendalough parish choirs.
Lectures on the cathedral’s early days will run throughout the week and an exhibition about St. Laurence will go on display. There will also be tours and workshops for diocesan schools held.
The following programme has been chosen for the week 13th November to 20th November 2016 at Christ Church Cathedral:
Sunday 13 November
3.30 pm – Ecumenical Evensong sung by the choirs of Christ Church and The Palestrina Choir. Archbishop Diarmuid Martin will preach.
Monday 14 November
Opening of St Laurence O’Toole exhibition in Musician’s Corner (running all week).
Launch of free D&G 800 ‘MOnks’ Tour of the cathedral and special workshops for all diocesan schools (these will run on a rolling schedule over the next few months and all diocesan schools will receive an invitation to join in).
1.30pm – Laurencetide lunchtime lecture: Prof Sean Duffy
Tuesday 15 November
6.oo pm – Compline sung by a Consort of Lay Vicars Choral and Choral Scholars
Wednesday 16 November
1.30 pm – Laurencetide lunchtime lecture: Dr Michael O’Neill
6.00 pm – Choral Evensong sung by the Cathedral Girls’ Choir
Thursday 17 November
1.30 pm – Laurencetide lunchtime lecture: Prof Rachel Moss
6.00 pm – Choral Evensong sung by the Cathedral Choir
Friday 18 November
1.30 pm – Laurencetide lunchtime lecture: Canon Prof Adrian Empey
Saturday 19 November
5.00 pm – Compline sung by the Cathedral Choir
Sunday 20 November
11.00 am – The Cathedral Eucharist sung by the Cathedral Choir
3.30 pm – Diocesan Evensong – with the parish churches of the Dioceses of Dublin & Glendalough
