IT’S CHRISTMAS!!!!! FRG Lights Up The Trees
Despite the threat of rain and high winds, the annual Christmas tree lights were turned on, at the Fountain Resource Group’s Youth Project in Basin lane. There was plenty of singing with guest appearance from pop sensation, Dubliner, Conor Hamilton, and local man Frank Watkins, both musicians played backing music to 3 different Carol groups from the Fountain’s wee tots, the juniors and the seniors.
This event was presided over by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Criona Ni Dhalaigh, who is no stranger to our community and had the honour of turning on our lights. We would like to give a big thank you from all the Fountain team to the Lord Mayor who took time out of her busy schedule to be with us.
The carol groups, who only had two days practice, sounded beautiful as they gave those assembled a collection of solo and group pieces including old Christmas classics, Silent Night & Jingle Bells, to name a few. The wee tots looked adorable in their little santa hats, while others had some form of Christmas costume to get us all in the festive mood. It was comical to look at them running around with their Santa hats on them.
Hot food and tea were provided by the Fountain team and we all left the cold for the warmth of the senior youth project. While the adults took a well deserved hot cup of tea, the young people had a party in their own games room. Pop sensation Conor Hamilton produced a guitar and played a well received acoustic set.
After the spread I went outside and took some photos of the trees with their lights, and the Christmas Reindeers. The crowd mostly were still at the party and despite them been only a few feet away from me, it was very relaxing in the garden where the tree’s where, it was like been somewhere else, like in some form of relaxation or some form or mediation it was lovely and peaceful.
The tree’s and decorations, are now on display and you can see them in all their glory even from the Basin Lane entrance , go and see them some evening over this festive season. They are at the Fountain Youth Project & Wee Tots Building, Facing Basin Street Flat Complex. We would like to thank all who attended yesterday & wish all of you a happy and peaceful Christmas, and a prosperous new year.
Please feel free to look up Conor Hamilton’s FaceBook page to listen to some of his catchy numbers. We would like to thank our Youth Workers Annemarie O’Dwyer, Helen Meehan, Paul Mc Donald, Nicola Mc Gee, Patricia Redmond, our kitchen staff Gene, Bridie and Betty. And all the youth project volunteers and staff who helped organise this wonderful event.
