Two Hollywood A Lister’s actors Mel Gibson & Sean Penn are due to begin filming The Professor and the Madman here in Rialto, Dublin 8. This movie is being directed by Farhad Safinia and it has taken up to four writers to complete the script including Simon Winchester, who originally wrote the book. Mel plays a character called James Murray while Sean plays a character called Dr William Chester Minor. The film is set in the mid 1900’s and the film is about compelling words for the very first Oxford dictionary.
An area in Rialto known locally as the Buildings has become the main set for this movie. Local residents who live in and around the Buildings have had leaflets stuck to their window screens advising them that due to the filming of this movie that parking will be limited as filming will begin on Wednesday 19th October.
Residents have welcomed this project and some locals have landed parts as extras in the production. Not only will it bring in jobs but its something very positive for the people of Rialto.
