Fountain Resource Group Crib Lighting Ceremony
Breaking away from the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony local people turned up in decent numbers yesterday (Wednesday 14th of December) to see the lights been turned on at a Nativity Crib. This event was hosted by the Fountain Resource Group’s to Basin Street based youth projects. Five young people from the Fountain Youth project with the youth worker staff built to Crib over a three day period.
The event was held on the directly in front of the Fountain Youth Project. At first we were all treated to Christmas Carols sung by the Fountains Wee Tots all the way up to the Seniors. Up to about 20 children took part in the Christmas Carols, which included a beautiful solo rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. Local priest, Fr John Collins gave a blessing of the Crib before the lights that was surrounding the crib were turned on.
Despite inclement weather, local people came out and showed their support for this wonderful lighting ceremony. After the lights and Christmas Carols it was back inside for some tea and hot food. The young people from the Fountain Youth Project worked extremely hard in preparations for this event and their hard work was noted.
The even was given in tribute to Craig Hanlon, who sadly passed on earlier on in this year.
