Another building on Thomas Street will not be used ever again, because on Wednesday night John Lynch’s Pub burnt down. There was quite a blaze, and it apparently took a considerable effort for the Fire Brigade to get it under control.
The fire started in the late evening, and city centre-bound traffic was closed off for some time in the early part of Wednesday night. The landmark local building has been derelict for quite a while, but it is now completely unfit for any use, except to possibly aim a wrecking ball at.
The roof collapsed during the fire, but thankfully there were no injuries or fatalities. The fire was attended by firefighters from both Tara Street Fire Station, and Dolphins Barn Fire Station.
It really is a sad sight, seeing another damaged derelict site on Thomas Street. Let’s hope the city and government put a bit of effort into regenerating this part of the city, because at the moment, that job is mainly being undertaken by locals independently.
Below is a photo I took this evening of John Lynch’s bar on my way back from FRG hq, less than 48 hours after it was burned down. The front doesn’t look too bad considering, but the rear and inside of the building are destroyed, and the roof is completely gone too obviously.
