Battle of Clontarf Commemorations

Viking Big Dig By Dublinia Medieval Exhibition

When:              Saturday, 12th April  Sunday, 27th April

Where:             Dublinia, Dublin 8

Overview         Children (ideal age 8-12) will experience what it was like to be an archaeologist and find Viking treasures dating back over 1,000 years.

There will also be a full size reconstuction of a Viking house within the Dublinia courtyard showing how a Viking house was built. Grown-ups can also get involved in the build.

Clontarf Heritage Trail Guided Tours

When:              Sunday, 13th April @ 14:30  Sunday, 27th April @ 14:30

 

Where:             Clontarf Promenade, Dublin.

Overview:        The trail will consist of a series of heritage boards, approximately every 0.5km on the Clontarf Promenade between the Alfie Byrne Road and the Wooden Bridge. The heritage boards will be double sided and mounted perpendicular to the path. The six boards will outline the story of the Vikings, Brian Boru and the Battle of Clontarf in word, map and illustration in Irish and English. Daily guided tours, at 2.30pm will be provided during the two weeks of Easter from the 13th – 27th April 2014.

Battle of Clontarf Millennium Festival **FLAGSHIP EVENT**

When:              Saturday, 19th April  Sunday, 20th April

 

Where:             St. Anne’s Park, Clontarf

Overview:        This will include the biggest living history battle re-enactment ever held in Ireland and will feature over 300 living history re-enactors.

There will be two 30-40 minute Battle of Clontarf re-enactments daily as well as a complete medieval village, craft, skills and weapons demonstrations, story telling, viking longboat, falconry, archery, coin striking, blacksmithing, food, music and much more. Not to be missed.

Fusion Sundays World Culture Market

When:              Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 11am – 5pm

Where:             The Dublin Food Co-Op, Newmarket, Dublin 8

Overview:        If you’re looking for something exciting to do on a Sunday afternoon join us at the upcoming Fusion Sundays World Culture Market! The vibrant event offers plenty of international stalls, live music, workshops, as well as giving an insight to Dublin’s multicultural communities. The colourful indoor market will be held again on Sunday the 13th of April at the Dublin Food Co-op. 
No where else can you find souvenirs from around the globe such as jewellery from Mexico, Indian Sarees, Spanish arts and crafts, or handmade cosmetics from Africa. Plenty of stalls will be offering culinary delicacies from places like Italy, Greece or Bulgaria. Workshops such as Shivam Yoga or African Drumms will entertain both adults and kids. Taste some fresh mint tea at the real Moroccan Tea Tent, treat yourself to a massage at the Holistic Ccorner, and enjoy the authentic vibes of live music and great international performances. 
Fusion Sundays World Culture Market is an exciting and vivid experience for people of all ages; it’s an explosion of colors, tastes and smells! 
The market is a free event and will be held from 11am till 5pm on Sunday the 13th of April at the Dublin Food Co-op, 12 New Market Square Dublin 8 (off Cork Street) and subsequently on the second Sunday of each month. Free Parking and Wheelchair access.

  • Art Workshops for Children with Orla Kelly and Early Childhood Creativity – Marquee Pleasure Grounds
    • Easter Animals 11am – 12noon; Painting Eggs and Nest 12.30pm – 1.30pm; Easter Nest and Bird 2pm – 3pm 
  • Easter Egg Hunt, Quiz and Challenge – 3pm – 4.45pm
