Dublin City Council Redevelopment Basin Street Complex
Dublin City Council has submitted planning applications on an ambitious redevelopment project for the Basin Street complex, a significant step towards revitalizing this historic area in The Liberties. The project aims to transform the existing 1950’s flats into a modern, vibrant community space, enhancing both the living conditions and the overall environment for residents.
Project Overview:
The redevelopment plan involves the phased demolition of the current flats and the construction of 171 new apartments. These will be distributed across several new blocks, with one existing building retained and refurbished. Designed by Coady Architects, the new development will include a crèche, a community and cultural space, and private landscaped areas.
Community and Environmental Enhancements:
A key feature of the redevelopment is the relocation of Oisin Kelly Park to the south of the site. This move will create a new parkland and amenity space for the community, enhancing the green space available to residents. Additionally, a new north-to-south street will be developed, linking Basin Street Lower to the new park, and improving connectivity within the area.
Phased Development and Resident Relocation:
To minimize disruption, the redevelopment will be carried out in phases. This approach allows for the gradual decanting of residents from the existing buildings, ensuring they are relocated before demolition begins. The phased construction will facilitate a smoother transition for the community, maintaining a balance between development progress and resident well-being.
