On Thursday the 27th of June the Community Addiction Programme (CAP) published their annual report, hosted a play and launched their first ever website in St Catherine’s Hall on Thomas Street here in Dublin 8. CAP, sometimes known as Oliver Bond Community Programme, is 13 years on the go this year.

When it was first set up in the Oliver Bond flat complex there was only one H.S.E worker on board and they used to use the Oliver Bond community hall as a base, which in recent times has been damaged by fire. CAP have moved a few times in the last few years, firstly to The Maltings in Marrowbone Lane, and then onto offices above the Vicar Street venue on Thomas Street, their present home.

The play which was performed in St Catherine’s Church last Thursday was called Addiction – The Thief of Dreams. It tells the story of a man called John, who has a dream of playing football for an English club, but from the age of 15 he falls in to the world of addiction, starting first with Hash then to Gear (Heroin). Seven people took part in the play, which was written by CAP. This was the first time that this play was shown to any audience, and it went down very well if I may say so myself.

Alongside the aforementioned play, CAP also used the St Catherine’s event to launch their first ever website, plus their 2012 Annual Report. Their excellent new website was designed by Damien Hughes of Solid Website Design, who also designed this website (frg.ie), and it contains a lot of information about CAP’s services for addicts and their families, plus information about their staff members. The 2012 Annual Report that was launched alongside the new website also includes plenty of information about CAP’s services.

After the play was performed and the Annual Report and website were presented to the audience, people were treated to tea and coffee with freshly-baked cup cakes from the CAP kitchen staff.
