A little over four weeks ago, RTE unveiled a new musical reality show with a difference. Called “The Hit”, it gives up and coming songwriters the chance to have their original songs recorded and released by established Irish artists from differing music genres. Each week six songwriters pitch their compositions to two different artists. Each then selects two songs, returns to the studio but records just one. At a live, televised show the chosen songwriters return to discover which of their songs has been recorded and released. The following week, live on 2FM, the songwriters find out which release has charted highest and thus gone directly into the final on August 30th.
We’ve been following the progress of Dublin native Alice Lynskey, who’s song “Run and Hide” was chosen and released by legendary rockers, The Stunning in week one. Up against “New Tattoo” – sung by Julie Feeney and composed by Tommy Moore, Alice entered the Irish top 40 at number 6 to Tommy’s number 9. Looking forward to this Friday’s final we caught up with Alice to have a chat about song-writing, appearing on live TV and having a pint with The Stunning.
