Christ Church Cathedral Ring Their Way to Victory
The Eastern District Bell Striking Competition made a triumphant return this year with Christ Church Cathedral taking home the Lindoff Cup.
It’s been a few years since the competition has been held and fans of campanology will be delighted to see its return. St. Audoen’s Church played host as three teams from Dublin 8, Christ Church Cathedral and two from St Patrick’s Cathedral, and St. Peter’s from Drogheda faced off for the chance to get their hands on the prestigious trophy.
It was a six bell competition with teams consisting of six ringers. Each team had to strike the bells for 10 minutes while maintaining good rhythm. The winners were the team who incurred the least faults.
It was the team from Christ Church Cathedral who emerged victorious this time. The team, consisting of Laura Higgins, Vyvyenne Chamberlain, Ray Cregan, David Hogan, Gary McGuire and Tony Reale, secured the trophy with an impressive score of just 16 faults.
Despite their victory, the Christ Church Cathedral team were quick to point out the importance of the competitions return, seeing their fellow campanologists again and getting to hear them ring. Team member David Hogan said “It was a great occasion for all the ringers to come together because of the time we lost and to hear some excellent ringing”.
Normally the top teams from each district would qualify for the All Ireland competition but unfortunately it won’t be held this year. Looks like we will have to wait another year for Christ Church Cathedral and St. Patrick’s to have their chance to take on the best ringers from around the country and bring back that highly coveted trophy to Dublin 8.
What incredible news, congratulations to the whole team! I have always been a fan of what you do, someone from that team some time ago, taught me the value and the work its to be a bellringer.
Congratulations again, keep up the good work!
