Bridgefoot Street Park Campaign Quiz
Local residents living on Bridgefoot Street in Dublin 8 have lashed out after it emerged that a patch of land that was to be used as a public park is to be considered as a site for modular housing.
Local residents and local businesses (in the guise of the Bridgefoot Street Park Campaign), who have been in talks with the Dublin City Council (DCC) were told that work would began on the park later this year. The Bridgefoot Park campaign, succeeded in having the empty site rezoned to Z9 area, which means it was to be used for only recreational purposes. The future of the site as a park however, may have come into question, as the DCC, coming under increasing pressure to provide social housing has opened the site to be reviewed. Consultations with locals about the design of the supposed park were cancelled causing concern with local stakeholders.
Campaigners argue that the Liberties area has one of the highest population densities on the island and has very little green space to accommodate residents. According to the World Health Organisation, that every city should have a minimum of 9sqm of green space per resident, the Liberties have only 0.7sqm, and if you look at other areas for example Ballsbridge, and Rathgar, they have 15sqm per resident, almost double the requirement, and they live less than in a four mile radius.
The Local residents have started a #Save Our Park campaign and will be hosting a public pub quiz fundraiser, this Friday 19th August 2016, in the Stoutmans Pub, James Street, Dublin 8. This event is being hosted by Jack Roche, who is no stranger to the Liberties area, Jack Roche, has a green grocer shop, in Meath Street, Dublin 8.
It will cost you €5.00 to enter or €20.00 per table, there will also be spot prices on the night. It starts at 8.pm.
