Dublin 8’s Bridgefoot Street Community has done it! On Monday they had a silent protest at City Hall in support of a development of a park at the Bridgefoot Street site. Dublin City Council had a Development Plan meeting on Monday at City Hall and Dublin City Councillors voted on a motion to have the site rezoned from mixed use to recreational and green space use.
The motion that was put forward for the site proposed a green space in the Liberties for a site that is bounded by Bridgefoot Street, Island Street and Bonham Street and that this site be rezoned from Z5 to Z9 for the development of a park and recreational area on the site.
In Dublin City Council’s Liberties Greening Strategy it was recognized that the South Inner City has a shortage of open space for sports and recreation and that presently there is only 16% space provided for these purposes.
Dublin City Council has decided to pass the motion and Bridgefoot Street Park site has now been rezoned to a Z9 zone, allowing for a park. Bridgefoot Street Community was saying on their official Facebook account today, “We did it!!! Z9! Bridgefoot street park site rezoned to recreational!!!!!”
