ALL NIGHT NCT TESTING
24 hour testing started this week in Dublin’s Northpoint test centre as part of response to a growing backlog in NCT bookings. This four nights a week service will be shared with Deans Grange test centre and is part of a number improvements to existing services that include extra inspectors and addition lanes.
Speaking at Little island test centre in Cork on Tuesday night Pascal Donohoe the Minister for Transport said “This will facilitate owners who work shift or require an urgent appointment…”.
This extension to NCT services appears to be a response to an upsurge in bookings since new stricter rules were first announced. Bookings rose by 26% in the last 3 months of 2014 compared to the same period the previous year, an increase of approximately 56,000 cars.
These new rules mean failure to display an up to date nct certificate could leave
motorists facing 3 penalty points and an on the spot fine of €60.
The rule changes are widely regarded by motorist’s as a revenue gathering exercise.
