With the sun gently shining on the calm blue sea, one could easily think they were on a island of the coast of Mexico or Spain, but no, we were in Blackrock, Dublin.
I went to meet Blackrock’s coolest new group, The Klares, who have a lot going on for them right now. I went out to meet this unque 4 piece group on their home turf. Along with their manager Rebecca Markey we met at the Dart staion then walked the very short distance to the waterfront.
Eoin O’Shea on lead guitar, Andy Burke on lead vocals, Cormac Sheridan on drums, and Jordan Lawless who plays the bass have been very busy lately after wining a competition, Web Factor. They won 60 hours of recording studio time and €2,000, a tidy little sum, after that they and another 49 Irish groups were picked out of 100’s of entries for the Youbloom@Dublin festival. The band then went on to play at The Workman’s Club.
All the lads are in transition year in CBC Monkstown, a school ran by the Christian brothers, who have been a great help to the group in recent times. The group are currently also in the Starz music competition and will battle it out to try and scoop the 1st place next month. They’re up against very tough acts including a group from Finglas called Rise and Ms Top Notch herself, Areizu Tabarsi, who is currently doing very well with the release of her new track “A Device” on YouTube. All acts will meet next month in the Liberty Hall in our wonderful city of Dublin.
So how did this group, who have been called “a very young U2” get together? Well firstly, they all live in the same area and attend the same school, just like U2, an ad was placed on the school notice board and by second year, the band was formed. When they first started they went through a number of names ranging from “The Wire” to “Rough Diamond” before settling on “The Klares”.
Rebecca Markey is their manger and pointed out that the lads wanted a name with “The” in it keeping with the current style then the lads came up with the name The Klares. Who Klare is we may never know!
Recently the lads have played live on a digtal radio known as FRQ Unsigned, the band play tracks from some of their favorite groups; The Artic Monkeys & The Killers to name a couple. And of course, they write their own material.
I asked them where they would like to be in 10 years. Rocking the World, where else? The Klares are a group who should without doubt crack Ireland before taking the world on as their own. This group have their own very unique style, and I have yet to meet another young group with such drive. I saw them preform live and they were just great.
I would like to wish the Klares the very best in the Starz music competition on Sat 19th Oct at Liberty Hall in Dublin, and the very best in the future. Lads get ready to rock the globe!!!
