Dublin Flea Market Won’t Be Returning This Summer
For a second year in a row, antique collectors, retro furniture lovers, vintage clothes admirers and vinyl record aficionados have been left disappointed as Dublin’s favourite flea market will not be back this year.
The popular market, which found a new home in 2018 at the digital hub, will unfortunately not be operating this year because of health and safety concerns. There was also uncertainty if they would actually be allowed to host the event with current covid restrictions.
A statement on their Instagram account reads “We have explored our options and talked it over. However due to event number restrictions under Covid and the nature of how touchy feely flea markets are, we feel it wouldn’t be safe, legal or enjoyable to attempt bringing it back under these conditions.”
It clearly wasn’t an easy decision to make as the statement continues “We are very sad about this as we miss our community and the buzz but we are confident that we are making the right decision.”
Dublin Flea has become an important part of life in Dublin 8 since it was founded in 2008. Huge crowds would flock to Thomas Street in search of the best bargains on everything from bespoke furniture to artisan foods, from second hand bikes to ornate arts and crafts, and a little of everything in between.
Let’s hope the market makes a safe return in 2022, the final Sunday of each month just doesn’t feel the same without the Dublin flea market.
