The Liberties Festival 2016

 

July 18th – July 23rd

It is that time of year again when the Liberties experience their summer festival.  This year marks the 46th year of the festival and it promises to be just as entertaining as previous years.  The festival organisers have recently won ‘Best Festival’ at the LAMA Community Council Awards.  The programme has a variety of music, dance, comedy, art, sports and community activities.

Join the Voice of Ireland’s winner Patrick James for this year’s young people’s talent show.

 

Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July

Walk, talk and sing tour

Free event

 

Starting point : The entrance of St Patrick’s Cathedral at 6pm

 

Join tour guide Reg McCabe and singer Jerry O’Reilly for this musical walk around the liberties.

 

The Liberties 1980 – 1986

Monday 18th July at 8pm

Teeling Distillery, Newmarket Square

 

This is presented by former Liberties news photographer Tom Hanky who brings you back in time to the Liberties in the 1980’s.

Pop up Poetry

Free event

Enjoy some poetry while you sip your coffee, or drink your glass of wine in the Liberties cafés and pubs.  Some of the poets include John Cummins, Karly Parkinson and Patrick Duffy.

 

Opera in the Open

Come and listen to the angelic voices of the Amica Voce Hungarian Chamber choir at St Aodoen’s Church.

 

Blue Jazz and Roots

This will be presented by the radio presenter from Near FM, Conor Doyle.  He is a historian who will share the information he has discovered through researching stars such as Judy Garland, Nat King Cole and many others.

This is the 27th year of the match between the Garda and the street traders.  It is produced by Garda Liam Holland and run by Joe Cullin in association with the Kevin street residents.

This dance event is suitable for people of all levels.

This event is especially for the more senior members of the community, and it features the Hot House Big band.

What’s the story?

This event is hosted by award winning writer Colm Keegan.  It is about  celebrating life in the liberties through music, writing, and theatre from the community.

This includes clubhouse DJ workshops, live music and film screening. It is only suitable for children aged 15 years and up.

10 teams of bowls will be involved in a tournament.

This is a street dance workshop for children aged 10 years old and older.

Tivoli Theatre.

This gala is presented by Azaria Starfire and includes some of Ireland’s best burlesque performers and hosted by award winning performer Tom Riddle.
