On Saturday the 6th of August 2016 the 97th Dublin Liffey Swim will take place. The race will begin at 1.30 pm with the men starting and the women’s race will start an hour later at 2.30 pm.
“I would like to thank Leinster Open Sea for organising the hugely successful Liffey Swim year after year, Leinster Open Sea have introduced a special 2016 Commemoration of the 1016 Rising. Come along and take part in the great atmosphere that is promised on Saturday and cheer on those brave swimmers,” said Deputy Lord Mayor, Rebecca Moynihan, who will start the race on Saturday.
This year 400 swimmers, old and young, will start Ireland’s oldest open sea race at the Rory O’Moore Bridge, beside Guinness Brewery, Dublin 8, and then make their way down the Liffey for a 2.2 km swim.
Swimmers will have their heads on the water, but above them they will pass Collins Barracks, The Four Courts, Dublin City Council’s Civic Offices and Liberty Hall.
They will have to watch their heads as they go underneath 12 bridges to get to the finish line at the quay wall in front of the Customs House.
The prestigious Liffey Cups will be awarded to the winners along the North Wall Quay.
