Dublin City Council presents StreetVelodrome Dublin City, as part of National Bike Week 2017, on Sunday 11th June and Monday 12th June in Smithfield Square, Dublin 7. This free 2-day family friendly event will include live entertainment, pumping music, kids activities, special guest appearances and great cycle sport entertainment!
On Sunday 11th June, Dublin will host the first round of the Viking StreetVelodrome Series, a touring competition which sees professional riders competing for gold, silver and bronze medals at events held across the UK and Ireland. Spectators are encouraged to come along and cheer on Team Dublin in the professional race at 2pm. Amateur cyclists of all ages are also invited to participate in competitions running throughout the day. These races are FREE to participate in, with equipment and professional coaching provided, but as there are a limited number of spaces available they will be allocated on a first come first served basis on the day.
This televised race day in Smithfield Square will be accompanied by family entertainment including face painting, balloon modelling and a cycling village where cyclists can pick up bike care tips. The Wobbly Circus’ colourful street performers will also be showing off their cycling skills on penny farthings and unicycles.
On Monday 12th June, StreetVelodrome Dublin City will be open to schools and the general public. Cycling enthusiasts are invited to come along to Smithfield Square and test out their skills on the velodrome which will be open from 3pm to 6pm – no booking required! Bikes, helmets and professional coaching will all be provided.
