Paddy Power Troll Irish Football Fans
The Irish bookmaking firm has trolled the football fans of Ireland with a mural located on Fenian Street Dublin.
The mural depicts Jack Grealish and Damien Rice against a Georges Cross and the slogan “Come on you boys in white”
Grealish and Rice famously switched allegiances from Ireland to England after playing underage football for the Republic.
Within hours of being unveiled the mural had been defaced with graffiti calling for “English out of Ireland” and mentioning the 1981 hunger strikers.
A spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “Obviously the objective of the mural was to get people talking about the campaign, and it’s certainly doing its job.
“The vast majority of people understand the sentiment behind the mural and for those who don’t,we’ve literally spelled it out on the wall next to it that we are donating €10k per English goal to Irish soccer and we’ve guaranteed €100k.”
“The point is that you might get a little bit sick in your mouth when you see this mural, or when England score, but you can’t argue with the fact that it’s cash banked for the betterment of Irish football.”
