NCAD Student Wins Mittelmoda Fashion Award
Twenty-two-year-old NCAD BA Fashion graduate, Aideen Gaynor, was awarded the ‘Absolute Prize for the Most Creative Collection’ at this year’s 23rd Mittelmoda International Lab and Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana competition.
“We are delighted to welcome the news of Aideen Gaynor and JJ Donnelly’s recent successes, and indeed we would like to congratulate all of the NCAD graduates and students who were shortlisted.
It is wonderful to see the products of the knowledge, skills and talent that our Fashion Design graduates have acquired and developed during their time in NCAD on display,” the Head of Design for Body and Environment at NCAD, Angela O’Kelly, said.
Aideen was up against 14,320 entries from 647 fashion schools in 66 countries and one of 24 finalists competing for Most Creative Collection. In May she won the ‘Designer to Watch’ prize at Brown Thomas for her ‘Hard Boiled Wonderland’ collection.
She also completed internships with John Rocha, Hong Kong born fashion designer, and his daughter Simone Rocha, 2008 NCAD graduate, and it has definitely paid off.
Her collection ‘Hard Boiled Wonderland’ was influenced by the novel Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Author Haruki Murakami.
“The clothing are of Victorian childhood and the portraits of the “Hidden Victorian Mothers” draped in heavy floral upholstery fabric, reminiscent of a Christopher Dresser print. The collection seeks to create a contrived narrative of densely printed and overwhelming silhouettes,” is the way Mittelmoda described her winning collection.
Congratulations Aideen from everyone here at Fountain Resource Group!
