National Library of Ireland Funded €500,000 for Yeats Works and Letters

The Minister of Art, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys TD., last week unveiled a collection of manuscripts, letters, a dream diary and press material belonging to the late poet and writer, William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) at the National Library of Ireland.

The collection was acquired from the family of WB Yeats, who attended the unveiling of the 10 signed letters and a postcard from James Joyce, a Dream Diary of Yeats’s wife, George, Cuala Press material and books from Yeats’s family library.

The NLI was funded with €500,000 to acquire the collection of works and letters. Caitríona Yeats said at last week’s unveiling of the new collection: “I am delighted that the National Library of Ireland has been able to add to their Yeats collection. This would not have been possible without the generous extra funding approved by Minister Heather Humphreys.”

The Yeats Collection at the NLI is now the largest archive of Yeats manuscripts and books anywhere in the world and includes items like the Nobel Prize for Literature’s medal and diploma Yeats won and also W.B. Yeats’s personal library.
