Two companies at the Digital Hub have been shortlisted for this year’s Web Awards 2016. Athena Media and Silicon Republic were nominated for categories of Best Arts and Culture and Best Daily Web Only Publication.

Athena Media was shortlisted for their transmedia creative arts project “Wild Stories” for the Best Arts and Culture category. The project consisted of a five part radio series re-telling a collection of fairytales written by Oscar Wilde.

It was aired on RTÉ’s Lyric FM in July and August. Irish composer Michael Gallen wrote the music for “Wild Stories” and visual artist Felicity Clear created a series of artworks depicting stories like “The Happy Prince”.

Silicon Republic was nominated for Best Daily Web Only Publication. Siliconrepublic.com went online in 2001 and is a resource for technology news online publication with a readership of over half-a-million each month.

Journalists at Silicon cover a broad spectrum of topics that include science, technology, engineering and maths research.

Last year’s winner in the Best Web Only Publication category went to Dublintown.ie and in Best Arts and Culture Website category, Century Ireland Gallipoli won the awards.

Main categories in this year’s Web Awards are News and Media, Entertainment and Arts, Technology, Content, Government, Education and Community, Technical Awards and Grand Prix.

The Realex Web 2016 Web Awards ceremony will be held in Dublin on Thursday the 28th of September 2016.
