John Gannon aged 99 years young last Saturday 27th May has received an official Certificate from the Guinness World Records for being a registered member of St James’s Brass and Reed Band since 22nd March 1936, taking his continuous active service with the Band to 81 years 5 days as of 27th March 2017.

The Band celebrated this with John and his family and friends by playing at 11.30 Mass on Sunday 28th May last in John Lane Church (Thomas Street) which is John’s parish church.

John served on many of the Committees and was always one of the officers and in particular served many many times as their Chairman.

John plays the Bass which is our biggest Instrument.

John still attends our Annual General Meetings and often has an inputto important decisions when they have to be made as he can often quote similar situations going back many years.

After the Mass Johns family had a room booked in the Aisling hotel where John, his family, his friends and all the Band members went to celebrate this occasion even more.

A great afternoon was had by all and John was in great form and enjoyed all the attention and the photos that was taken of him.

John is an inspiration to all who meet him, young and old. A real gentleman.
