James St CBS Helps Eastern European Charity!
An Post worker and former student of CBS James’ Street, Paul O’ Neill returned home and spoke to students and teachers of CBS about his experiences bringing humanitarian aid to extremely vulnerable and needy orphanages in the Eastern block of Europe.
C W U (Communication Workers Union) along with their UK counterparts, drive a convoy of small trucks across Europe carrying aid and vital supplies with them. The trucks are filled through the drivers own fundraising capabilities, and a ‘wish list’ is sent to each driver to see if they can fill the trucks.
Paul’s stories not only stirred but touched the hearts and minds of all listening, and both the students and teachers of CBS James’s Street decided they were going to do something to help.
The pupils and teachers decided to raise some funds through a sponsored walk in the Phoenix park and an in school soccer blitz. Both events not only raised money but all who attended had a great day out.
With the monies raised they purchased basic toiletries and baby wipes from the wish list they were given, and some items of clothing. The students packed the boxes themselves and labeled them with the school crest so that the recipients would know that a little inner city school does care about what happens in an orphanage in Moldova.
