Diageo Wins Gold

Diageo is a global leader when it comes to their leading brands of spirits, beers and wines. Their brands are sold across more than 180 countries. Popular brands include: Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, Baileys, J & B and Guinness. Since 1954 the Cannes Lions Festival has been celebrating professionals in the creative communications industry. Diageo won eight awards – two gold, two silver, and four bronze at this years’ Festival.

The Cannes Lion Festival took place from the 21-27th June 2015 at the Palais des Festivals, Maritime Alps in France. The original building, Palais des Festivals et des Congrés, was built in 1949 to host the Cannes Film Festival as well as the Eurovision Song Contests on some occasions. In 1979 a new Palais were built in the City of Cannes and opened in 1982. The Festival had more than 34,000 entrants taking part in the awards.

Diageo’s brand that really excelled at this year’s awards was Johnnie Walker, winning two silvers and three bronzes. The awards were for two campaigns and four categories. Diageo also had seventeen campaigns short-listed and were rewarded for four of them.

The winning campaigns were:
1. Guinness ‘Made of Black’ – by BBDO Africa and AMV BBDO; winning a Gold Lion for Film and a Bronze Lion for Film Craft.
2. Buchanan’s ‘Piano’ – by Santo Beunos Aires; winning a Gold Lion in Film Craft for Adapted Music.
3. Johnnie Walker ‘Keep The Flame Alive’ – by Leo Burnett Beirut; winning a Silver Lion for Response/Real-Time Activity, Bronze Lion for curation of images and Bronze Lion in PR Lions.
4. Johnnie Walker Blue Label ‘The Gentleman’s Wager’ –by Anomaly; winning a Silver Lion in Film and Bronze Lion in Media for Use of Branded Content & Sponsorship.
