D8 Planning Updates – Week Starting 27/10/14 – 07/11/14
In this bi-monthly planning update, proposals include two major residential developments, a student accommodation complex, a science laboratory and a HSE Primary Care Centre.
In the Brickfield Lane/Cork Street, a large two site development is currently being proposed by Wexele Ltd. The first site will comprise an 8 story 127 apartment complex complete with gym, office space and restaurant. The second site will comprise two buildings, the first, a 6 storey building designed for scientific or technological use, the second, a 365 one bed unit student accommodation complex.
This will be a welcome development by city based student unions, who warned this September of the complete lack of student accommodation in the city.
A more modest residential development is proposed for the Newport/Pim Street area. A 12 x 2 bedroom apartment complex complete with cafe space is currently awaiting permission.
Finally, the Rialto end of the South Circular Road will, upon permission from the DCC, see its own HSE primary care centre. The centre will comprise GP clinics, primary care team clinics and a pharmacy.

The demolition of the existing HSE Health Centre, demolition of the existing Mother McCauley Community Centre and demolition of the existing Alzheimer Day Care Centre.
