The South Central Community Remembers 1916 Programme was released last week Tuesday the 16th February at St Catherine’s Church, Thomas Street, Dublin 8. The programme is full of events happening here in the South Central Community, with seminars, exhibitions, art, tours, poetry and performances telling the story of the 1916 Easter Rising put together by community volunteer groups and organizations.
An tArdmhéara Críona Ní Dhálaigh, was there to reveal the programme that includes 50 diverse projects funded by Dublin City Council. “Tá sé go hiontach go bhfuil an pobal ag croí lár an chláir seo and táim ag súil go mór leis na himeachtaí ar fad. I am delighted to be here this evening to launch Dublin South Central Community Remembers Programme of Events to commemorate 1916. I would like to thank all of the local volunteer community groups and organisations who submitted details of their projects for inclusion in the events programme. The organised events recognise the importance of placing communities at the heart of the commemorations and I hope people will engage with the programme and through it reflect on the events that changed the course of our history,” an tArdmhéara said about the Programme at last Tuesday’s launch.
The Programme has events that will run in various parts of Dublin 8, including St James’ Hospital, Ballyfermot Library, Patriots Inn in Kilmainham, Warrenmount Centre, St James’ Primary School, Richmond Barracks and Kilmainham Gaol.
