Zumba the fun dance workout

Zumba has become increasingly popular in recent years with over 180 countries worldwide now

doing Zumba classes. It is a fun way to work out and a great way to meet new friends. Zumba is a dance fitness program which was created by Columbian dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez in the 1990’s. It combines dance and aerobic exercises.  The choreography integrates samba, salsa, merengue, mambo, hip-hop, soca, and squats and lunges.  It is trademark owned by Zumba Fitness LLC.  They don’t charge licensing fees to gyms or fitness centers for practicing Zumba in their facilities. Beto Perex created Zumba accidentally after he forgot his music for the aerobics class he was teaching.

He listened to music from his car radio which played a combination of salsa and merengue music. He improvised a class based on this music with both slow and fast rhythms, combined with aerobic exercises.  This became popular in Columbia, and when he moved to the U.S in 2001 he went into business with his friends, Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion.  They produced a demo reel and a company called Fitness Quest discovered them.  An average Zumba class is an hour long and the Zumba teachers are taught by licensed Zumba Fitness LLC instructors. There are nine different types of Zumba classes.

Zumba Toning is a cardio workout for people who use toning sticks. It concentrates on the abs, thighs and various other muscles in the body.

Aqua Zumba classes are held in the shallow part of the swimming pool.  The same moves are performed in this class as are used in a regular Zumba Fitness class.

Zumba In The Circuit combines dance with circuit training. It is a 30 minute class which incorporates circuit training with dance movements.

Zumba Step is a step aerobic workout which includes a Zumba routine.

Zumba Kids classes are for children aged between 7 and 11 years old.  The steps are less complex than in a regular Zumba class. Games and activities are included in the class to make it more interesting for the kids.

Zumba Kids Jr. classes are designed for children between the ages of 4 and 6.  The steps are more basic, and games, activities and cultural exploration are integrated into the session.

Zumba Gold is a class for older people who want to improve their muscle strength, posture, mobility, and coordination.

Zumba Sentao is a chair workout that focuses on using body weight to strengthen and tone the body.

Zumba Gold-Toning is similar to Zumba Gold accept toning sticks are used in the workout.  It is a safe and favorable workout for older people.
